Jews cursed rebuked in Bible

Muslims are blamed for cursing Jews:
“Those of the children of Israel who went astray were cursed by the tongue of David, and of Jesus, son of Mary. That was because they rebelled and used to transgress”.(Qur’an;5:78)
The Israelites Violated The Covenant with God and thus were disgraced, rebuked in Bible:
1) Became rebellious against God (Deuteronomy;32:15;9:7; Isaiah;1:2,Exodus;32:9)
2) The Israelites became unfaithful to covenant engagements (Jeremiah;3:6-8, 31:32; Ezekiel;16:59).
3) They were punished by God for; Idolatry (Psalms;78:58-64; Isaiah;65:3-7), Unbelief (Romans;11:20), Breaking covenant (Isaiah;24:5; Jeremiah; 11:10), Transgressing the law (Isaiah;1:4; 24:5-6), Changing the ordinances (Isaiah;24:5), and Killing the prophets (Mathew;23:37-38, 27:25).
4) They often displeased God by their sins (Numbers;25:3; Deutreronomy;32:16; 1Kings;16:2; Isaiah;1:4; 5:24-25). 5) They were scattered among the nations (Deuteronomy;28:64; Ezekiel; 6:8; 36:19).
6) Despised by the nations (Ezekiel;36:3), their country trodden under foot by the Gentiles (Deuteronomy;28:49-52; Luke;21:24).Their house left desolate (Mathew;24:38) and were deprived of civil and religious privileges (Hosea;3:4).
Rebelliousness of Jews has also been mentioned in Bible: “And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff necked people: (Exodus; 32:9)”
“Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people. Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD. Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.” (Deuteronomy; 9:6-8)
“Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice. Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.” (Deuteronomy; 9:23-24) “Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin”: (Deuteronomy; 9:27)
They taught about God but did not love God — they did not enter the kingdom of heaven themselves, nor did they let others enter. (Matt 23:13-14)
The Woes of the Pharisees is a list of criticisms by Jesus against scribes and Pharisees in the Gospel of Luke 11:37-54 and Gospel of Matthew 23:1-39. Mark 12:35-40 and Luke 20:45-47 include warnings about scribes. Seven are listed in Matthew, and hence Matthew's version is known as the seven woes, while only six are given in Luke, whose version is thus known as the six woes. The woes mostly criticise the Pharisees for hypocrisy and perjury. They illustrate the differences between inner and outer moral states. The seven woes of hypocrisy are:
They taught that an oath sworn by the temple or altar was not binding, but that if sworn by the gold ornamentation of the temple, or by a sacrificial gift on the altar, it was binding. The gold and gifts, however, were not sacred in themselves as the temple and altar were, but derived a measure of lesser sacredness by being connected to the temple or altar. The teachers and Pharisees worshiped at the temple and offered sacrifices at the altar because they knew that the temple and altar were sacred. How then could they deny oath-binding value to what was truly sacred and accord it to objects of trivial and derived sacredness? (Matt 23:16-22)
They preached God but converted people to dead religion, thus making those converts twice as much sons of hell as they themselves were. (Matt 23:15) They taught the law but did not practice some of the most important parts of the law — justice, mercy, faithfulness to God. They obeyed the minutiae of the law such as tithing spices but not the weightier matters of the law. (Matt 23:23-24) They presented an appearance of being 'clean' (self-restrained, not involved in carnal matters), yet they were dirty inside: they seethed with hidden worldly desires, carnality. They were full of greed and self-indulgence. (Matt 23:25-26)
The Children of Israel as a community did not adhere to the Covenant in totality, though there were some exception. Some Exceptions:
They exhibited themselves as righteous on account of being scrupulous keepers of the law, but were in fact not righteous: their mask of righteousness hid a secret inner world of ungodly thoughts and feelings. They were full of wickedness. They were like whitewashed tombs, beautiful on the outside, but full of dead men's bones. (Matt 23:27-28) They professed a high regard for the dead prophets of old, and claimed that they would never have persecuted and murdered prophets, when in fact they were cut from the same cloth as the persecutors and murderers: they too had murderous blood in their veins. (Matt 23:29-36) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woes_of_the_Pharisees
“If they would have believed (in Islam) and kept themselves away from evil, there would have been a better reward from Allah, if they could understand it!”(Qur’an;2:103).
“There are some among the people of the Book who truly believe in Allah and what has been revealed to you, (Muhammad), and what has been revealed to them before you. They humble themselves before Allah and do not sell the revelations of Allah for a petty price. For them, there will be a reward from their God. Surely Allah is very swift in settling the accounts.(Qur’an;3:199). “Rest assured that the believers (Muslims), the Jews, the Sabians and the Christians - whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteous deeds - will have nothing to fear or to regret”.(Qur’an;5:69).

Judaism and Zionism: a divorce in the making?

Way back in October 2001, a prominent and widely respected liberal London , Dr David Goldberg, made what I thought at the time was the most remarkable statement ever made by a Jew in the 53 years that had passed since the creation, mainly by  and , of the  (not Jewish) state of Israel. He said that Israel’s “” of  had left many Jews “questioning their unconditional support for Israel”. Then this: “It may be time for Judaism and  to go their separate ways.”
The report I read of Goldberg’s remarks was by Andrew Johnson in The Independent on Sunday. Its headline for his story was “British Jews at odds after rabbi criticizes Israel’s ‘colonization’”. As the report indicated, what Goldberg said had provoked a “passionate argument” in the pages of the Jewish Chronicle, editorially a standard bearer for Israel right or wrong.
I once had the pleasure of talking with Rabbi Goldberg over lunch, just the two of us. From my research I knew that he was what I like to call a GHB (Good Human Being) and a man worthy of respect. He was, for example, the first prominent Jew in the UK to call for recognition of legitimate Palestinian rights – he did so in an article for The Times in 1978; and he was the first rabbi to initiate dialogue meetings between Judaism, Christianity and Islam when the Regent’s Park mosque opened in the same year. But what I liked about him most of all was the quite rare thing he had in common with my dear friend Ilan Pappe. He was without a trace of the self-righteousness that is the hallmark of Jews everywhere who have been brainwashed by Zionist .
He is also a thought-provoking author. His books include The Jewish People, Their History and Their Religion, The Divided Self: Israel and the Jewish Psyche, and, in 2012, This (Zionism in action) Is Not the Way.
In his review and endorsement of the latter, Avi Shlaim, a leading Jewish “revisionist” – meaning honest – historian, wrote this.
In the aftermath of its victory in the June 1967 War, Israel lost its moral compass. Many Jews suffer from selective moral vision about Israel. Rabbi David Goldberg is an admirable exception. He places Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians under an uncompromising lens. After the critique comes an eloquent plea for ethical Zionism – Zionism grounded in Jewish values.
Ethical Zionism? With due respect to Rabbi Goldberg (and Avi Shlaim), the  me believes there could never be such a thing. From the beginning Zionism’s engine drivers knew their assertion that Palestine was “a land without people for a people with land” was propaganda nonsense, a grand deception. So I think it can be said without fear of contradiction that Zionism, founded in the knowledge that it would have to resort to ethnic cleansing to achieve its goal, never had a moral compass.
I think it can also be speculated that the discovery of a moral compass by a significant majority of Israeli Jews would mean the de-Zionization of Palestine that became Israel and thus the end of Zionism. Why? Proof that a moral compass had been discovered would include as item number one an acknowledgement of the wrong done to the Palestinians by Zionism and acceptance of the need to right the wrong. Zionism is never, ever, going to put itself out of business.
But even if Rabbi Goldberg did allow himself to entertain some wishful thinking about the possibility of Zionism becoming grounded in Jewish values (I presume he meant progressive, reformist, modern Jewish values), that would not detract from the significance of his very courageous and most profound statement: that it may be time for Judaism and Zionism to go their separate ways.
The year 2001 was clearly not the time and 13 years on a provocative question seems to the gentile me to be in order.
Why should Judaism unshackle itself from Zionism?
One part of the short answer is that the credibility of Judaism is being undermined by Zionism’s contempt for its moral values and ethical principles. In that sense there’s a case for saying that Zionism is a threat to the survival of Judaism. (The detailed case was made by survivor Hajo G. Meyer, an anti-Zionist Dutch national of German-Jewish origin, in his 2007 book An Ethical Tradition Betrayed, The End of Judaism).
Also to be noted in the context of the paragraph above is that Zionism’s founders were secular. Their only interest in Judaism was using its idea of God as an estate agent.
The other part of the short answer is signalled by the title of my book, Zionism: The Real Enemy of the Jews.
Today the message of that title is being underlined by a rising, global tide of anti-Israelism. Contrary to what Israeli Prime Minister  and those of the neo- tendency to the extreme right of him assert, this rising tide is not, generally speaking, a manifestation of anti-Semitism (meaning prejudice against and a loathing of all Jews everywhere just because they are Jews). It is a manifestation of concern and anger provoked by the Zionist (not Jewish) state’s arrogance of power and insufferable self-righteousness. And it is happening because more and more people of all faiths and none, including a still smallish but growing number of Jews, are beginning to see Israel for what it really is: the oppressor and not the victim.
The danger for the Jews of the world is that anti-Israelism could be transformed into anti-Semitism, setting the stage for  II, my shorthand for another great turning against Jews everywhere, and starting quite possibly in America. A warning of this danger was issued by Yehoshafat Harkabi, Israel’s longest serving director of military intelligence, in his 1988 book Israel’s Fateful Hour. He wrote:
Israel is the criterion according to which all Jews will tend to be judged. Israel as a Jewish state is an example of the Jewish character, which finds free and concentrated expression within it. Anti-Semitism has deep and historical roots. Nevertheless, any flaw in Israeli conduct, which initially is cited as anti-Israelism, is likely to be transformed into empirical proof of the validity of anti-Semitism. It would be a tragic irony if the Jewish state, which was intended to solve the problem of anti-Semitism, was to become a factor in the rise of anti-Semitism. Israelis must be aware that the price of their misconduct is paid not only by them but also Jews throughout the world.

Harkabi also had a message for Jews throughout the world.
They must dare to speak their minds candidly, without being afraid to disagree with Israel. The reticence of the American Jewish leadership is not to their credit. Instead of publicly expressing their concern they act as apologists for policies and conduct of which many of them privately disapprove, abdicating their responsibilities as leaders in America and as influential advisers in Israel. Muteness is not neutrality but an endorsement of current Likud policies.
If Harkabi was alive today I would suggest to him that in an updated text “Likud policies” should be replaced by “the policies of the neo-fascist right and the  religious zealots”.
Peter Beinart recently noted that
The reality of the growth of and religious extremism in Israel has been largely ignored by those groups in the US such as [American Israel Public Affairs Committee] and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) which devote so much time, energy and resources to promoting what they perceive, often mistakenly, to be Israel’s interests.
As Harkabi explained in a chapter titled “Nationalistic Judaism”, religion in Israel was marginal and did not attempt to influence or guide Zionist policy until after the I967 war. Because of their mistaken belief (the product of one of Zionism’s biggest propaganda lies) that Israel’s existence was in danger on the eve of that war, very many religious Jews were inspired to interpret victory as “a manifestation of God’s intervention”; and to conclude that “the conquest of parts of the historic land of Israel cast a brilliant light on the Zionist enterprise”.
What Harkabi described as the awakening of a nationalistic Judaism was a slow and evolving process which has led to what he called “national religious extremism” demanding and getting a leading role in Zionist policy making.
Harkabi concluded his chapter on nationalistic Judaism with a statement about the need “to avert a crisis in Judaism” and “alleviate the blow to the Jewish religion when the political position of  of supported by religion comes to grief”.
The latest expression of despair about the reticence of  to speak their minds was that of Allan C. Brownfield in an article for Issues, the journal of the American Council for Judaism, of which he is editor. Under the headline “On the growth of religious extremism in Israel: a challenge to its American friends”, he wrote:
In a thoughtful new study guide issued by the Israel/Palestine Mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a question is asked which few have thus far been willing to pose: “Given the liberal values shared by many American Jews and the long, proud tradition of Jewish participation in the struggle for worldwide, why has there been so little outrage expressed at Israel’s abuses of Palestinians in the decades since Israel’s founding?”
Brownfield then quoted the answer to that question given by Paul Krugman, the Princeton economist and New York Times columnist:  “The truth is that like many liberal American Jews – and most American Jews are still liberal – basically avoid thinking about where Israel is going.” Krugman’s explanation of why was “the high price for speaking out”, which is “to bring yourself under intense attack from organized groups that try to make any criticism of Israel’s policies tantamount to anti-Semitism”.
Fear of being condemned and reviled by Zionism’s verbal hit-men and possibly ostracized is undoubtedly one reason for the silence of the majority of American and European Jews.
Another is that arguments about Israel and its policies can and does tear Jewish families apart, separating parents from children, husbands from wives and brothers from sisters.
Another is ignorance of what Zionism has done and is still doing in Palestine that became Israel. For very many American and European Jews, Zionism means nothing more than Jews from anywhere exercising their right to return to their God-given, ancestral homeland. (For this article I’ll leave aside the fact that Israel/Palestine is not the ancestral homeland of most Jews of the world today.) In other words, most American and European Jews have no idea that Zionism is an ethnic cleansing process in action.
Then there is what I believe to be the main reason for the silence of most Jews. Deep down, perhaps only in their sub-consciousness, they believe, because of their history and Zionist conditioning, that Holocaust II is a real possibility. In that light they see Israel as their refuge of last resort, their insurance policy. So, they tell themselves, do nothing and say nothing that could assist Israel’s enemies and put that insurance policy at risk.
The irony, perhaps the most tragic irony in all of human history to date, is in the fact (perhaps I should say probability) that if they continue to support Israel unconditionally and continue to be silent on Israel’s policies of oppression, the Jews of the world, in America and Europe especially, will lay themselves open at some point to a charge of complicity in Zionism’s crimes. And that would greatly assist the transformation of anti-Israelism into anti-Semitism. This is the essence of the case for saying that the Jews of the world have a vested self-interest in distancing themselves from the Zionist monster.
Question: Will they ever do so in big enough numbers to cause Judaism and Zionism to go their separate ways?
If reason based on the facts as they actually are in Israel/Palestine was allowed to prevail, the combination of self-interest and moral necessity ought to be enough to guarantee a “Yes” answer. But could it be that it’s already too late because most Jews of the world, conditioned by their history and Zionist propaganda, are and will remain beyond reason on the matter of justice for the Palestinians?
I don’t pretend to know the answer to this question. I am only asking it.

Note

Under the headline Eradicating Israel, ’s latest article in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz ought to be required reading for all Jews everywhere. It includes this:
With the exception of a few players, marginal and deluded, no one thinks about it (eradicating Israel). It is only we Israelis who cling to the concept: Caution, annihilation ahead… A highly armed regional power, with nearly every kind of weapon at its disposal, economically and scientifically advanced, recognized by most of the countries in the world, a member of nearly every important international organization and with global influence that far outstrips its size, an ally of the world’s sole superpower, claims that its existence is under threat. That’s bullshit.

Hager: An Egyptian Princess

Hagar hay'gahr (Hebrew: הָגָר, Modern Hagar Tiberian Hāgār, meaning "uncertain";  Greek: Άγαρ Agar; Latin: Agar; Arabic: هاجر;‎ Hājar) is a biblical person in the Book of Genesis Chapter 16. Rabbinical commentators asserted that Hagar was Pharaoh's daughter. The midrash Genesis Rabbah states it was when Sarah was in Pharaoh's harem that he gave her his daughter Hagar as slave, saying: "It is better that my daughter should be a slave in the house of such a woman than mistress in another house". Sarah treated Hagar well, and induced women who came to visit her to visit Hagar also. She became wife of  Abram (Abraham) to bear a child. Thus came the firstborn, Ishmael, the patriarch of the Ishmaelites. The name Hagar originates from the Book of Genesis, is mentioned in Hadith, and alluded to in the Qur'an. She is revered in the Islamic faith and acknowledged in all Abrahamic faiths.
According to Jewish Traditions:
Hagar is first mentioned in Gen. 16:1: “Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. She had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar.” The Torah does not explain how Sarah came to have an Egyptian handmaiden, nor does it specify how many years she was with her mistress before she was given to Abraham. The Rabbis connected Abraham and Sarah’s stay in Egypt during the years of famine with the Egyptian handmaiden’s joining their family. In the narrative in Gen. 12:10–20, when Abraham and Sarah went down to Egypt, Sarah was taken to the house of Pharaoh. In response, the Lord afflicted Pharaoh and all his household with mighty plagues. When, in the midrashic amplification, Pharaoh sees the miracles that were performed for Sarah in his house, he gives her his daughter Hagar as a handmaiden. He said: “It would be better for my daughter to be a handmaiden in this house [i.e., Sarah’s] than a noblewoman in another [in the palace in Egypt].” The Rabbis offer an etymological explanation of Hagar’s name: Pharaoh said to Sarah, “This is your reward [agrekh],” as he gave her his daughter as a handmaiden (Gen. Rabbah45:1).
In another exegetical tradition, Hagar was born to Pharaoh from one of his concubines. When Pharaoh took Sarah as a wife, in her marriage contract he wrote over to her all his property: gold, silver, slaves and lands, and Hagar also was included in Sarah’s marriage contract (Pirkei de-Rabbi Eliezer [ed. Higger], chap. 26).
These midrashim present Hagar as someone who was worthy to live in Abraham and Sarah’s house because her father acknowledged the existence of the Lord. Hagar, who would bear children to Abraham, was herself a princess, and was a fitting match for the father of the Israelite nation. She likewise was suited to be the mother of Ishmael, from whom twelve chieftains would issue (in accordance with the divine promise in Gen. 17:20). The tradition of Hagar being given to Sarah as a present from Pharaoh, king of Egypt, already appears in a Jewish composition from the first century BCE (Genesis Apocryphon [ed. Avigad-Yadin], p. 37), albeit without mentioning that she was the daughter of Pharaoh.
According to another tradition, Hagar was a usufruct handmaiden (who had belonged to Sarah even before her marriage, and had come with her as part of her dowry; after Sarah wed Abraham, Hagar continued to be the property of her mistress, and not of the husband). Consequently, Abraham was obligated to provide her maintenance, and he was not permitted to sell her (Gen. Rabbah loc. cit.). This explains why, in the continuation of the narrative, Sarah determined Hagar’s fate: to whom she would be married, how much labor would be demanded of her, and when she would be sent away from the house.
In Islamic culture/ traditions, Hagar (or Hajer) was an Egyptian princess whom was kidnapped by the Hyksos when they have occupied Egypt. Her ancestors believed in Invisible, Eternal and Unseen One God who have no equal and no partner which means that she was Monotheist as her ancestors. In Islam she is a symbol of Faith, strong trust in Allah and loyalty to Him. In Pilgrimage (Hajj) we remember her, we haste seven time between the Safa & Merwa hills as she hasted, we do as she did. She is the mother of Ismael (Ishmael) and the grandmother of prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) which he praised her. Her name (Hajer) is an ancient egyptian name “Ha: Lotus flower. Jr: Land (e. i. Egypt)” literally means “Lotus of the Land”.
Prophet Ishmael (peace be upon him):
According to Islamic traditions, Prophet Ishmael (peace be upon him), the first born son of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) was left in wilderness (now known as Makka), as an infant along with his mother Hagar. Abraham invoked Almighty Allah: “0 our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in a valley with no cultivation, by Your Sacred House (the Ka’ba at Mecca); in order, 0 our Lord, that they may offer prayers perfectly , so fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (0 Allah) provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks. 0’ our Lord! Certainly, You know what we conceal and what we reveal. Nothing on the earth or in the heaven is hidden from Allah.”(Qur’an;14:37-38). The biblical narrative is some what different, but it mentions: “And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael. And Abram was eighty-six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.”(Genesis;16:15-16), “And the angel of the LORD said unto her (Hager), I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.”(Genesis;16:10-11). “And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.”(Genesis;13:18), “And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.” (Genesis;17:20), “And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”(Genesis;16:12).
The whole land of Arabia appears (Genesis;10:1-32) to have been inhabited by a variety of tribes of different lineage, Ishmaelites, Arabians, Idumeans, Horites, and Edomites; but at length becoming amalgamated, they came to be known by the general designation of Arabs. The modern nation of Arabs is predominantly Ishmaelite (decedents of Ishmael or Isma’il), their language Arabic, is the most developed and the richest of all the Semitic languages, and is of great value to the student of Hebrew. Isma’il was also a messenger of God (Qur’an;19:54). He willingly offered himself to be sacrificed in obedience to the command of Allah to his father Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him), who was asked to offer the sacrifice of his ‘only son’ as mentioned at Genesis;22:2. Isaac was 13 years younger to Ishmael, hence he can not be called as  only son of Abraham. Allah accepted the gesture of Abraham and substituted ram instead (Qur’an;37:102-107).
Who was offered for Sacrifice?
A controversy has raged between the followers of the Bible and the adherents of Islam as to which of the sons of Abraham, Ishmael or Isaac was offered as a sacrifice. It is important to note that, a peculiar sanctity was attached to the first-born both of man and of cattle among people right since the time of Adam, it was especially of great importance among the Israelites. God claimed that the first-born males of man and of animals should be consecrated to him, the one as a priest (Exodus;19:22,24), representing the family to which he belonged, and the other to be offered up in sacrifice (Geneis;4:4). The laws concerning this redemption of the first-born of man are recorded in Exodus;13:12-15; 22:29; 34:20; Numbers;3:45; 8:17; 18:16 and Leviticus;12:2,4. Even the first-fruits of the ground were offered unto God just as the first-born of man and animals. Ishmael, without any doubt was first born son of Prophet Abraham  (peace be upon him). The Bible is quite clear in designating the offering: “He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Mori'ah, and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."(Genesis;22:2). If at anytime, an offspring of Prophet Abraham  (peace be upon him) can be described as "thine only son: it could only be Ishmael, because for more than thirteen years, he was the only son and seed of Abraham. God Almighty acknowledges Ishmael as the "son and seed" of Abraham in no less than twelve places in the Book of Genesis alone. At no time was Isaac the only son and seed of Abraham. The false pen of the scribe was in the hand of the Hebrews who edited the Books of Moses, as the prophet Jeremiah lament: “How do ye say, We are wise, and the law (the Torah) of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribe is in vain.”(Jeremiah;8:8). When the Hebrews are found to convert an Israelite into an Ishmaelite when no motives are involved, then how much easier for them to change the word "you only son Ishmael" to : your only son Isaac!"
Ishmael helped his father Abraham in building the Ka’ba (Qur’an;2:127). He called the people around (Arabia) to prayer and charity. Isma’il became the ancestor of Arabs. Allah says: “We blessed him (Abraham) and Isaac: but of their progeny are (some) that do right, and (some) that obviously do wrong, to their own souls.”(Qur’an;37:1130). Once the progeny of Abraham through his second son Isaac deviated from the faith of Abraham, after two and half millennium, God shifted the honor of “Leadership of Mankind” to the decedents of Ishmael by appointing Muhammad (peace be upon him) as His last messenger (610 C.E).

The Jews and the Muslims: By Mustansar Hussain Tarar

Any way our fears that Herman was taking us downstairs to sacrifice us as rams on the altar of Solomon, were totally unfounded. Instead he treated us with some delicious brownies along with steaming hot coffee in a cellar which looked like a class room of sorts, perhaps a madressah where Jewish fundamentalists were trained.

“Now this is my grand daughter, isn’t she the prettiest thing in the world?” Herman showed us a framed photograph of a little girl who was so plain and ordinary that imagination had to be stretched to the limit to call her pretty, which I did, and then I produced my trump card, a photo of Noffel and showed it to Herman “Now this is my grandson.”

“Well, he is almost as pretty as my granddaughter,” he exclaimed.

This Herman the Jew must be stone blind. I decided and did not pursue the matter further.

It is a strange phenomenon that Jews do not accept Christianity. And both Jews and Christians do not accept us, Muslims. But as the people of the book, not only do we accept them but it is part of our faith that Moses and Jesus were true prophets of Allah as we are the true followers of Din-i-Ibrahimi. So it is natural that in faith we Muslims are very close to Jews and there are a lot of similarities.

Jews greet each other with “Sholom” and we say “Salam” when we meet.

We consider the pig totally Haram and Jews also refrain from eating it.

We only eat Zabiha meat and Jews have their equivalent of kosher meat. Like us they fast. Their skull cap is similar to our Namazi Topi, and their dress code is very strict. On the streets of New York you will come across neatly dressed Jews, men in black suits and woman in ankle length skirts and they never wear jeans or revealing dresses. We believe that a Muslim has no nationality; but Jews have proved it in the span of thousands of years and perhaps this is one of the reasons that they were persecuted throughout history as they did not abandon their faith and never committed themselves to any nationality. Jews actually suffered because of their conviction and remaining steadfast to their belief. They are very strict as far as personal hygiene is concerned. And they, like us, get circumcized.

In modern times as soon as the male child is born the needful is done immediately by a competent doctor; but in old days circumcision of a male child used to be a joyous event celebrated by the whole family. I wonder why have we abandoned this festive custom?

I still remember the day when I was hardly two years old when I felt that there was something special in the air. My mother was dressed as if she was going to a wedding and the women in the family were chirping and humming and extra ordinary love and kisses were being showered upon me. Even the servants wore new clothes and there were baskets full of Moti Choor Laddus wonderfully decorated. Little did I know what was in store for me. Then Ibrahim Nai, holding a small black bag, entered the house and my beaming father welcomed him like an old friend which he was. Needless to say that I was also dressed in a silk shirt, just the shirt mind you. I was garlanded heavily and then my father lovingly carried me to the roof of the house where two bricks were already placed in closed vicinity. I was made to sit on those bricks and I sat on them willingly because I was sure that we were going to play some new game. In the meantime Ibrahim Nai had opened his black bag and I don’t recollect what fatal instrument he brought out of it. Then he sat right in front of me and suddenly looking upwards towards the sky he said, “Mustansar look a cheel is carrying a donkey.” I involuntarily looked up towards the sky and who would not look up if a cheel was carrying a donkey and at that particular moment the needful was performed and I was never the same again.

Jews and Muslims have been very close to each other not only through some common beliefs but have had a very strong relationship throughout history. They were included in the “Millat” by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in the Islamic state of Medina. The most glorious chapter of the Muslim and Jewish co-operation is the common heritage of Undlus which lasted for almost 700 years. Some of the greatest philosophers, writers and Hakims of Muslim Spain were Jews, among them Ibne Maimun was the personal physician of the great Saladin. Maimun died in Cairo and according to his will his body was carried on the same path which was taken by Moses while he guided the Banu Israel out of Egypt. In Cairo, there is still a synagogue by the name of Maimun. Local Jews believe that someone with an incurable disease can be cured if he spends a night there. However, Alqafti states that Ibne Maimun embraced Islam before dying. In the old quarters of Almanzar and Ibne Rushd where in Arabs’ times Jewish population of Cordoba resided, I saw a memorial bust of this great Physician in front of his old house. Out of hundreds of prime ministers of Granada most were of Jewish faith, so much so that a Jewish historian claimed that the famous Alhamra was actually built by Jews — he could be partly right. When finally the Christian reconquest took place the wrath of the conquerors fell upon Jews heavily. They were massacred for their co-operation with Muslims and were deported along with Muslims. After the fall of Granada in 1492 the Sultan of Turkey welcomed them and rehabilitated them in Istanbul where to date descendants of those Undlasi Jews reside.

However, this historical relationship ended the day the state of Israel was established on the lands and bodies of the Palestinians. The day, according to western terminology, terrorism was born. I believe that Israel was the greatest injustice in the history of humanity and if there was no Israel this world would have been a comparatively peaceful place to live in. There would not have been any George Habbash, Laila Khalid or Hamas or 9/11 for that matter. I always get amazed that victims of the holocaust, which let’s face it did take place — though its extent can be debated — the same people when in power descend upon Sabira, Shatila, Hanin and Ghaza they are capable of committing such atrocities which even the Nazis would admire. I am also amazed that the Christian right in America fanatically supports Israel without realizing that a vast number of Palestinians are staunch Christians — Laila Khalid and George Habbash being two of them.

On American media a very aggressive campaign has been launched to rescue the poor Jews from their countries of birth and send them to Israel. “Fellow Americans, if you donate just $350 to the noble cause a homeless Jew can fly to Israel. If you give $700, a Jewish couple in distress can be helped to settle in Israel. And if you send $1400, a whole Jewish family can go to the promised land.” Along with these appeals heart-wrenching scenes of Jews arriving in Israel, weeping by the wailing wall are flashed. Among these zealots is singer Pat Boone who in our heyday used to sing “Don’t forbid me to kiss your lips”. The Christian right believes that when all the Jews will be gathered in one place then once again Christ will descend from heavens and convert the whole world into Christians, including the gathered Jews. Jews don’t mind this notion as long as the money is pouring in.

Jews or Muslims- Who is on the right track?

By Mustansar Hussain Tarar

It clearly goes to the credit of Jew’s ingenuity that they have resurrected all the men, women and children from the ashes of gas chambers and made them walk on the media, newspaper and Europe’s guilty conscience as if they are still alive. These victims and the atrocities committed by the Nazis are the trump card which they used for the establishment of Israel, and are still using it for the continuous military and financial support of the West and America. Jewish film-makers and intellectuals were mainly responsible for keeping the holocaust tragedy alive and indeed it is a great achievement on their part.

However, in the meantime, the human tragedies which occurred in Palestine, Africa, Chechnia and in other parts of the globe were completely forgotten as they did not have genius film-makers, authors and historians who could record and imprint the atrocities their nations suffered.

Take the case of Spielberg, perhaps the most talented and innovative director in Hollywood, who would produce The Schindler’s List but would conveniently forget as to what happened in Sabira, Shatila and Janin. Or how hundreds of ancient Palestinian towns and villages were bulldozed along with the centuries old orchards and the ancestral graveyards, their occupants either massacred or evicted forcibly. And then the new Israeli towns and settlements were built on this land which did not belong to them. Even the names of these ancient towns and villages were erased from the official maps along with their history. Instead, their Jewish past was dug up and a new history was created.

When an Israeli massacred dozens of Palestinians praying in the mosque of Abraham, he was dubbed as a madman and not as a terrorist, mind you. I assure Mr Spielberg that all these subjects are also excellent film material and I am sure that Mr Spielberg would assure me in return that let there be a Palestinian Spielberg to do the job.

Along with other holocaust victims, the Dutch girl Anne Frank is till alive. After the end of war, her father, who managed to save his life from the Nazis, returned to his house in Amsterdam where in a cellar he found some of the pages of Ann’s diary. “We have no food left, I have not eaten anything for last two days and I am very hungry .... During the night I could hear the sound of German Boots who are searching for Jews, how am I different from other little girls that they want to kill me.”

The diary of Anne Frank was published by her father and it became an instant hit throughout Europe and subsequently was translated into all the major languages of the world. During my visit to Amsterdam, I also visited the ‘Ann Frank House’ which is a museum now, displaying some personal effects, family photographs, original pages of the diary and the translated versions. There is the ‘Ann Frank Foundation’ which sees to it that her memory does not fade away. I also contributed few guilders because for me she was not a Jewish girl, but just a girl who should not have died.

There was only one Ann Frank.

And there were dozens of Ann Franks who were shot while playing with dolls or bulldozed by Israelis and some of them maintained little diaries which were published in the Arab world. I had the occasion to read some of their extracts and they moved me to tears. After a while these diaries, just like the little girls who wrote them, went into oblivion only because their writers were not Jewish but Muslims and Christians.

One of them was a girl with golden hair, when in the middle of night the Israelis attacked their ancient village and started massacring the population and bulldozing their homes. she was so terrified that she just ran out of her home and kept on running. After a few months her moth-eaten body was discovered in a wheat field, only her golden hair remained and amongst them sprouted the golden corns of wheat shining in the sun. This Ann Frank had also written a diary describing the fear of oncoming Israelis and the way they had already murdered some of her relatives but this dairy also met the same fate.

Their one Ann Frank is remembered and is still living but dozens of our Ann Franks are not only dead but forgotten because we do not have the genius and planning of the Jews.

Although Jews are amongst my favourite nations because we have so much in common, but they have built a wall of hatred between us, the wall of Israel. However, the Pakistanis living in America are all praise for the local Jewish population, in their opinion only a small minority is adverse to Muslims, the rest of them are very liberal and feel closer to Muslims than the Christians. An average Pakistani will prefer to work for a Jewish boss who is very honest in his dealings and very helpful in the times of distress.

A certain person by the name of Hussain Khan went to America almost 16 years ago. At one time he was working at the front desk of a hotel chain in New York. After about a year, his Jewish boss called him and said, “Hussain, I have been observing your conduct for a long time and I have found you hard working, honest and intelligent. You should not be spending your life on a front desk of a hotel. You deserve a much better mode of life. Son, if you want to progress in America you should first of all know the system in which you work.”

The boss suggested some banking and finance courses which Hussain completed and now he is almost a millionaire as a consequence. He is trusted so much that he manages the affairs of a synagogue which his boss patronizes. The Jewish boss also appreciates his commitment to Islam and at times reminds him about his prayers, saying, “Hussain, go and pray”.

Recently, when he built a new hotel of his chain, Hussain was given a proper share in it.

Another very interesting episode I would like to share with the readers. Hussain’s elder brother, Fareed Khan who is a very devout Muslim, dresses in a long robe, a huge turban and naturally with a flowing beard. Soon after 9/11 his deportation was ordered because he had not informed the home department when he changed his last abode. Hussain immediately challenged this order in a court of law through a Chinese lawyer who was a close friend.

On the day of the hearing, Hussain received a call from the lawyer who said, “Hussain, start packing your brother’s belongings, he is going to be deported in next half an hour.”

“Has the judge already rejected the appeal?” Hussain’s heart sank.

“It will be for sure, you know in what costume your brother has entered the courtroom? In a long robe, wearing a turban and carrying a prayer rug under his arm for heavens sake! And you know on top of it the judge is Jewish”

The final verdict was such a surprise that nobody believed it, the judge had declared that he respects all those people who are committed to their faith and dress accordingly. So his appeal was accepted. The next day the Jewish judge sent the prayer rug which Fareed Khan had forgotten in the courtroom to his home with a Shalom.

Well there are both good and bad ones among the Jews, as there are in all other faiths.

But Herman the Jew was definitely a good one because he offered us another cup of hot coffee and at least half a dozens more brownies. Finally, the much-awaited plumber appeared and we were vastly relieved. While parting, I thanked him profusely for his hospitality and said “Herman our faiths have a lot in common, only you are slightly off the track.”

“Well only on the Day of Judgment, it will be decided as to who is on the right track and who is off track, you or us,” he smiled amicably and went back to his synagogue.

"And We gave them clear proofs of the matter [of religion]. And they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ."[Quran 45:17]

Similarities over differences - Jew, Muslims & Christians

Much has been written about the differences between Jews and Muslims: a lot less about the similarities between us. Jews, Muslims and Christians have a lot more in common than we care to sometimes admit.
  • We share belief in the same one G-d.
  • The originator of our religions and cultures is
  • the same person: Abraham.
  • Jews, Muslims and Christians - are regarded as Abrahamic religions.
  • We share one same holy place: The Temple Mount (the Rock) is where [according to Hebrew traditions ]Abraham brought his son to sacrifice him. Adam was buried there. Solomon built a great temple there. Jesus prayed there. [Prophet] Mohammad (pbuh) ascended there. (Source: Bruce Feiler Abraham).
  • There are many common aspects between Islam and Judaism. As Islam developed it gradually became the major religion closest to Judaism. As opposed to Christianity which originated from interaction between ancient Greek and Hebrew cultures, Judaism is similar to Islam in its fundamental religious outlook, structure, jurisprudence and practice. (Source: http://rabbidavidrosen.net/).
  • There are many traditions within Islam originating from traditions within the Hebrew Bible or from post-biblical Jewish traditions. These practices are known collectively as the Isra'iliyat. (Source: http://post.queensu.ca/~jjl/islam.html
